Expert editing for writers, publishers, media companies, nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations
Need an editor for your book, articles, Web content, and other writing projects?
If you’ve searched the internet for an editor, you know there are countless numbers of us out there advertising our services. There’s no shortage of editing talent for a writer—or publisher, media company, or nonprofit/nongovernmental organization—to choose from.
So why hire GdS Editorial Services?
I am George de Stefano, the founder and principal of GdS Editorial Services. I offer a combination of skill, experience, subject matter expertise, and affordability you’re unlikely to find elsewhere.
My background comprises more than 20 years as an editor in journalism (print and online), trade and academic publishing, and nonprofit and nongovernmental agencies. I have edited books, essays, articles, policy papers, white papers, curricula, promotional material, grant proposals, and reports.
My subject matter expertise is broad, encompassing social science, the humanities, popular culture, social and political issues, health, and public health.
I have edited nonfiction books for major publishers, including Cambridge University Press, Hachette, Palgrave Macmillan, Monthly Review, and Perseus. I also edit for nongovernmental organizations, including the United Nations World Food Program, Prevention First, and the Vera Institute of Justice. I additionally work with individual authors to develop their manuscripts for submission to publishers.
As the editorial manager of the publications office of a major public health agency, I conceptualized, edited, and wrote everything from brochures and pamphlets to scientific articles and reports, for the general public and medical specialists. I oversaw the entire editorial process, from the concept through writing, editing, and production. I also supervised the translation of these materials into multiple languages, making them accessible to millions, in New York and beyond.
I work with many style guides — Chicago, AP, New York Times, as well as UK (Butcher’s/Cambridge). I edit and proofread using Microsoft’s “track changes” function and Adobe Acrobat’s editing tools.
I have a Certificate in Editing from Poynter News University and am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), the American Copy Editors Society (ACES), and the National Association of Independent Writers and Editors (NAIWE).
